Colombia and the non-reelection of Uribe
I will start saying that Alvaro Uribe is one of my favorite politicians ever. This is a smart, pragmatic and effective leader that has taking a great nation like Colombia to a better place regarding security and economic development. I have been very happy to see him in power, and I belive that changing the constitution to allow him a second therm was a great idea.
However, I have to say that I am also happy that the Colombia’s Constitutional Court rejecting the possibility of a third therm or recond reelection for Uribe. It also makes me happy to see the reactions (at least the public ones) accepting this.
Like I said, I am a big fan of Uribe’s work, but the reality is that in a democracy there must be changes in the different branches of power. No matter how great a man or woman does their job in the presidency, he or she must move on and transition their power to newly elected officials.
Colombia is a great country, with very talented people, I am sure their destiny will be in great hands. Regarding Uribe, I am also sure that he will find ways to continue to contribute.
